Hullo,
not really a macos-x11 realted question ;-)
you have to use on your local machine, i.e., the one you display the
mathematica notebooks, the xset command to set the font path,
it will look like this:
xset +fp path_to_the_mathematica_root/SystemFiles/Fonts/AFM
xset +fp path_to_the_mathematica_root/SystemFiles/Fonts/BDF
xset +fp path_to_the_mathematica_root/SystemFiles/Fonts/Type1
where path_to_the_mathematica_root stands for the path to the
place where you have your Mathematica installed. one of those
commands will fail, i never know which one.. if you have some
more directories in the Fonts directory, use the xset on them.
of course you need to have the Fonts directory on your local machine.
if you run it remotely you need to download them from the remote
machine, steal that is ;-)
