Not rootless after 10.5.7?

I installed the 10.5.7 upgrade this
morning and all of the sudden, remote windows cause a fullscreen root
window to be displayed on my system (both displays in fact). I tried
downloading and installing the latest XQuartz version, but that didn't
clear it up either. I'm using ssh tunneling ("ssh -Y server") to
execute remote applications. This has always yielded an application
window that lives amongst the other windows on the display. I would
like to regain that behavior again.
What's worse is that when that happens, I don't have any way to kill
the X Server. What is the correct keyboard combination to kill the X
Server on Leopard?
Thanks,
Craig
