Thanks, Jeremy.
However, I'm still confused, since the bug does not seem to exist on my MacPro here at work.
Here I can drag an X11 window (an xterm for example) to the edge of my desktop and onto the desktop in a different space.
Just to be clear, I have OS X 10.6.3 Build 10D573 and XQuartz 2.5.0 (xorg-server 1.7.6) on this Early 2009 MacPro4,1.

Yes, this is the issue to which I was also referring. And what seems odd to me is that the problem occurs on my MacBook3,1 but not on MacPro4,1, even though both are running 10.6.3 and XQuartz 2.5.0 (xorg-server 1.7.6).
In response to Jeremy's last reply, I replaced /opt/X11/bin/quartz-wm with the binary at http://static.macosforge.org/xquartz/downloads/testing/quartz-wm-PR-370-r2.bz2 on my MacBook.
Did you decompress it first? What does /var/log/system.log say?
Yes, I decompressed it and set permissions correctly. I also restarted the computer and that did not correct the cycling. I am now at work and cannot access that machine to check the system log. I'll post the log as soon as I can.
Others report success with it. Try just executing it directly (run /opt/X11/bin/quartz-wm from Terminal.app) to see if that produces any error message. I take it that the fact that the problem exists on my MacBook but not on my MacPro is unsurprising.
It has to do with grabbed events. You likely just did something slightly different on the two machines. The bug exists on both machines.
