The nature of the problem is as yet undetermined, but IMHO, judging
from the symptoms I would say either SIGWINCH is not propagating (for
whatever reason) and/or auto-wraparound is turned off (that is, the
terminal behaviour described by terminfo does not match actual
behaviour specified to the terminal).
Both scenarios are possible (old time X users used to see both quite
often), but if either is the correct guess then it's likely that it
has nothing to do with the xterm binary itself. Based on the last
description, auto-wraparound being turned off seems to be the more
plausible cause.
