Is any of this attributable to different apps having different cut/paste
styles? There are two main schemes in use in the X11 world; AFAIR, xterm
and a lot of the older apps treat select and copy as one op and use the
PRIMARY selection as the intermediary, and a bunch of the newer things
like GTK and KDE treat select and copy as separate ops (like the Apple
and Windows desktops do). And use the ring of CUTBUFFERn selections.
There's a page somewhere that talks about this fairly clearly (maybe by
JWZ? I forget).
So does the trouble track particular X11 apps?
