Does this graphics application use GLX? If so, checkout this bug
report (with the likely fix):

This is with version 251 of xterm (and 2.5.1 ships with the most
recent version, 261). The crash indicates that this is a memory
management issue with the scrollback. It's possible that this bug
was fixed in a newer version, but I am not certain. I looked
through the ChangeLog and didn't see anything between version 251
and 261 addressing memory management in the scollback.
David, my recommendation is to just update and see if the bug
reproduces with the current version.
Thanks, I was able to try this today, and it seems to have fixed the
xterm crashing problem. However, I now have a new problem: In a
local xterm window I ssh to a remote Linux system. On that system,
I run qemu with a graphics console, which was working before I
installed xQuartz, but now I get:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 25 (X_SendEvent)
Resource id in failed request: 0x47d
Serial number of failed request: 18
Current serial number in output stream: 21
Any ideas on this one? I tried quitting and restarting X, but I
still get the error.

I'm running X11 straight from Snow Leopard, i.e., I haven't
installed any of the newer test versions. I've recently started
having xterm crash on me, attached is a log of one of the
scenarios. When it crashes, I've previously run an application
that does simple text graphics (specifically I'm booting up a CD
image in a simulator on a serial console, and using the syslinux
menu system). My xterm windows where I haven't done this run just
fine. The windows where I've done this crash randomly at some
point later, it appears from the trace that it is while it is
processing scrolling. I'm assuming it's being triggered by some
of the escape sequence processing.
Has anyone seen anything like this, and if so, do you know if it
has been fixed in one of the newer X11 releases?
