Is this a regression, or is this something that has been a problem for a long time?
Please open a bug report at http://xquartz.macosforge.org and mention what version first introduced this bug.

I created the big green xterm, and moved it over, then created the little green xterm, dragged it left off the screen a bit, which caused that part to get a different shade of green, then I dragged it over the big one, and you can see how it changed just from having a window dragged over it. It's interesting that there seems to be a buffer around the small xterm that affects things beyond the edges of the xterm. And it doesn't have to be the small xterm, I took a Finder window and dragged it over the big green xterm, and the same thing happened.
