It is a regression from standard X11 in Snow Leopard, which I have been running until now when I installed XQuartz 2.5.2. So I don't know how far back the regression goes.

I've opened ticket #425.

I created the big green xterm, and moved it over, then created the little green xterm, dragged it left off the screen a bit, which caused that part to get a different shade of green, then I dragged it over the big one, and you can see how it changed just from having a window dragged over it. It's interesting that there seems to be a buffer around the small xterm that affects things beyond the edges of the xterm. And it doesn't have to be the small xterm, I took a Finder window and dragged it over the big green xterm, and the same thing happened.
