I must apologize... my eyes are, I guess, insufficiently sensitive to have noticed the change.
Using the Digital Color Meter:
xterm -geometry 80x60+600+0 -bg palegreen -> gives RGB colours 92 AB F2
Move the xterm partially offscreen then back-> RGB colours 98 FB 98
This using XQuartz 2.5.2 (xorg-server 1.8.2) on SnowLeopard.
Sorry, I really didn't see it earlier. I'll blame it on poor lighting rather than poor eyesight...
