It sounds like an issue we were having with wine that was caused by quartz-wm being "wrong" (but that was fixed quite a while back)... I hope that tk is the problem because these types of issues are a pain in the rear.
Could you first try updating your version of tk to see if it was something on that end... if it persists, let's take a look...
