The problem is only there (for me anyway) with the side buttons of the mighty mouse. I already have them disabled until this gets fixed. The problem does not occur when I invoke expose via the keyboard.

If not, you could either disable those side buttons via System Preferences > Mouse, or via perhaps a more complicated route, tell X11 to ignore those buttons?

I can 100% reliably break my mouse interaction with X11 by invoking expose via squeezing the side buttons on my bluetooth mighty mouse when X11 is the front-most application.
