Proposed replacement for X11 that currently has Ubuntu and Fedora
supporting its development and planning to release preview versions in
future updates.
http://wayland.freedesktop.org/ - main page, which describes it
accurately but not very practically
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Wayland - Ubuntu plans
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=254337 - discussion
about Fedora plans
The latter link also mentions, without details, the main relationship
to this thread: that it's a lot simpler and avoids a lot of the X11
cruft that makes it difficult to fit into modern systems.
