What I can say is that the quartz-wm (for pack in at least), does not match SL or Lion (or Leopard IIRC, I don't have a Leopard machine around to check it out).

I'm guessing what you'd actually want is a version of the X11 server that is in fact a "simple" proxy endowing "standard" Quartz or CoreWhatever windows with an X11 protocol interface. I'm sure that's possible, but it'd probably be a quite different beast than what XQuartz is currently. Though in a sense I guess that's exactly what XQuartz and X11.app do ... so how difficult would it be to let the Quartz handle decoration of what's already a Quartz window at some low level?
I must admit I can see the annoyance with a windowing style that's just slightly different. I can see another annoyance much better: the one of confusion interaction styles/protocols because it isn't clear at a glance if you're handling an OS X or an X11 app (window). I have 2 solutions for that: either I put X11 in full screen mode (and then I couldn't care less if the window style looks OK or not), or I leave it rootless but run a WM with a completely different look and feel.
R. / who'd rather see Apple devote resources to QT 'perennity' on Mac & MSWin rather than write eye candy for X11 dinosaurs like us ;) _______________________________________________
