I have used "ForwardX11 yes" in my .ssh/config file for years, so I don't know what's changed which means that I now need to use the -Y flag explicitly. Anyway, the problem appears to have gone.
ForwardX11Trusted is the .ssh/config equivalent. I would wonder if you perhaps had another ssh installed somewhere (MacPorts likes to pull it in on me for some reason and I always have to rename it out of the way). It's also possible to adjust the trust settings of the server itself (should be buried somewhere in "man 7 X") but I wouldn't recommend it.
