Ok, that's probably the application (not X11) failing to notice that an error occurred and reading a null pointer.

The BadAlloc, we'd need to see a bit more about --- might try using xscope to see what exactly is triggering it.  (It's not an X server issue if some other bug is causing the program to request a 100GB bitmap....)
