I wholeheartedly agree that the network transparency of X11 is
marvellous, so I prefer that too, but, like you, I use Emacs under Aqua
when appropriate. Being an old Emacs dog (first ran it under TOPS-20
... ;-), I find Aquamacs a tad bit "too Aqua" for my taste, and I found
a compromise which runs under Aqua, but which is more "classic Emacs" in
its user interface:

I suggest this only as yet another option.
