The old X11.app that came with Mac OS X Lion had a bug that would lock up the X-Server if you quit and restarted an application more than twice. Not just with my app
http://baudline.com , but any app, even xclock. The solution was to kill and restart X11.app which would work fine for a while. I don't understand how such a basic bug could of gotten through Apple's Q&A and be released with Lion? I should note that this bug was eventually fixed in a later release.
Actually running Snow Leopard's X11.app on Lion worked much better than using the stock X11.app that came with Lion. Unfortunately telling my customers to use an old version of X11.app from a version of Mac OS X that they may not even have was not a workable solution. You have to make the best of the situation with current state of the operating system, that's the life of a developer ...
There were other X11 bugs too that have since been fixed. Thank you for fixing those. Best to focus on the current though. I have some new XQuartz problems that I'll describe in a future thread.

What issues were you having? I'd expect copying the SL X11.app to Lion would certainly cause issues.
xorg-server 1.4.2 was never supported on Lion. The first server version supported on Lion was 1.10.3, from XQuartz 2.6.3.
So it looks like something broke in between the 1.4.2 and 1.10.3 servers ...
