I don't think there's anything wrong with this policy per se - it's the
labelling and the promulgation of information that's the problem. If I were
not a subscriber to this mailing list, and if I hadn't happened to encounter
this thread, I would never have realized that what I got through Software
Update wasn't the whole enchilada!
So, I think Apple needs to improve seriously the way it lets developers know
what's up here. I'm a registered something-or-other, so how about sending me
an email? And the Web site describes very, very badly what's happening -
contrast's Scott's note, quoted above, which describes it very clearly. Maybe
they should just let Scott write the Web site blurbs!

PS On another note, and not just in the spirit of the season, I'd like to say
how great I think Xcode now is. You know, when I first started developing with
Project Builder and Interface Builder, just after Mac OS X first went public,
I found Project Builder barely usable and the debugger completely unusable.
Now with code completion and the improvements to documentation integration,
the new window layout, the fast build times, and the vastly improved gdb front
end, this is actually a seriously cool development environment. Plus of course
Cocoa is cooler in Panther too. Many thanks to everyone involved.
