Extend tree views to right pane on project window (enhancement - 3471174)

We've floated around ideas about being able to switch between a table and outline view style in some future release. One big thorn is how an outline view style meshes with the search field.

How about remove the tree from the left? i.e., have only Project, Targets, Smart Groups, etc on the left, and clicking on the project gives the group/file tree, targets gives the target/build tree :), same for groups, finds, etc. This could be a switch somewhere.

That doesn't solve the problem of how to show a filtered tree. The nice feature of the table is that it is flat, so filtering is much easier to understand.

I'm not sure I get this. I must be missing something. What I was thinking is a switch, either the way it is now, or the left side is always a list (never a tree), with the regular items, like project, targets, smart groups, etc.

If you click on project, in the right pane you'd get a tree:

My folder 1
  code 1.c
  code 2.c
My folder 2
  code 3.rsrc

If you click on target, you'd get:

My Target
  my build style 1
  my build style 2

Finds would be

code 1.c
   blah blah blah blah
   blah blah blah blah

Etc.

If you have a smart group/filter, just show the list as flat (all parents, no children.)

OK, I'm getting carried away now :)
