I can use XCode, it's usable ... it just seems that they took the
coolness of the new project window and went too far with it.
Just to center this discussion a little, I think some realitively small
changes would "fix" most of the complaints. Once again, IMHO. I hate
to do this, because it seems like I'm acting like I know better or am
just complaining, but I really do this to help :)
[1]
Make the find (and replace) just like it was in PB, and just like it IS
in every other mac/windows/linux applications. Remove any find from the
project tree.
I don't need to remember every find, if I want to remember it, I keep
the window open. If I want too finds, I open another window. Sure,
Apple's moving towards a lot more "quick finds", but even the finder
still has a real find window. And the parent/child relationship is best.
[2]
Consolidate build styles, targets, and executables. Those settings are
spread everywhere, and to a new user (or old user), it's nearly
impossible. Both with PB and VC++ (and all the others) those settings
are basically in one place. Build styles? Put them IN the target
dialog even. Go back to the dialog-based editing instead of the flat
editing. Collections are just confusing, and won't be necesarry in a
dialog-based (ok, like PB) scheme.
[3]
I think build errors and warning should also pop up in their own window
w/parent-child relationships.
I guess my major complaint is the right pane of the project window; it
doesn't seem to impart any useful information. I'd almost like to see
the project window as just a tree; finds, builds, etc, pop up as
needed. I only use the right pane because I have to (i.e., errors +
finds), otherwise I'm always clicking on the tree. That, or as I
suggested before, make the left pane a FLAT list (not a tree), on click
on that list to get a tree in the right pane.
I know how little time you guys had to work on this, and I know it's an
evolving target and it will get a lot better. So, sorry for the ranting :(
