You are remembering correctly. With the standard 802.11b network you
lose because of the slow networking speeds. To really get the best
performance out of distributed builds, you need to minimize the cost of
transferring the files and our tests show that this occurs at 100mbps
(Gigabit ethernet could be even better depending on the network
traffic).
