You can update to any Mac OS X version 'manually' by retrieving and
archiving the Combo dot-dot releases for local installation. Then you
reinstall the base system for a given release (Panther is 10.3 in the
original release or 10.3.2 in the currently available retail packages)
and install just the 10.3.4 Combo update release.
It's a laborious task but works fine. I always archive all the dot-dot
combo upgrade disk images and the original system disk images for every
major system release.
