I have tried to use SCM in Xcode and it works ok for modifying but adding and removing don’t seem to work correctly. There also seems to be a problem with updating the project file (since it is in use at the time).
Could you be more specific? If it doesn't "seem to work correctly," what actually happens? What are you doing to add and remove files from the repository? In the "loads" you have read, did you read the Xcode Help page on Adding and Removing Files from the Repository which recommends that after adding and removing files, you select the file icons
and the project icon and choose "Commit Changes"?
In the SCM window there are two dimples at the bottom. Pull them up to see the actual SCM logs. You might get more help if you try the operation you intend, then copy the results out of that window and paste them here.
We'd rather show you how to use SCM effectively, or fix it if it's broken, then advise you on which third party tools to use.
