Could you be more specific? If it doesn't "seem to work correctly," what actually happens? What are you doing to add and remove files from the repository? In the "loads" you have read, did you read the Xcode Help page on Adding and Removing Files from the Repository which recommends that after adding and removing files, you select the file icons and the project icon and choose "Commit Changes"?
Hi Chris,
I am not in the habit of posting pointless messages. The reason I was not more specific is that I HAVE read a lot (hours and hours worth) on the subject and it appeared to me that generally people were not using the SCM in Xcode. I was trying to initially establish if this was the case.
Furthermore, yes I did read the Xcode help of course, although it was not much help. It suggested that you should select the file, press the delete button, then click OK to the following two dialogs. At which point the file would be marked with an ‘R’ and would be removed at the next commit.
Nope. That is not what happens. When you press delete, it asks if you want to delete files and references, or just references. Then it deletes the file from the project and never removes it from the repository. SO that’s how helpful Xcode help was.
On adding a file, it says to mark it for addition (which I did) and then to select the file and the project to be committed to the CVS and commit them. No problem, I did that. Except that on the other machine, when it tried to update the project file with SCM (since the project is already open) it therefore updates the file on disk and all sorts of nasty things happen. Like Xcode hangs. Or it takes about 5 mins to reopen if you try to revert to saved version.
So maybe that gives you a little more idea? I think if you have ever used SCM in Xcode you must have come across these issues. What I was asking was, if there are issues like this, do you know how to GET AROUND THEM?
I have started using CVL and it seems to work a lot better.
Regards,
Dave.
In the SCM window there are two dimples at the bottom. Pull them up to see the actual SCM logs. You might get more help if you try the operation you intend, then copy the results out of that window and paste them here.
We'd rather show you how to use SCM effectively, or fix it if it's broken, then advise you on which third party tools to use.
Chris
