Thanks - I have noticed the problem with absolute paths and using the
same Folder mounted locally and remotely. I didn't realize that would
cause a hang as sometimes it happens but does not.

In our situation, the cause of this is that files get added to the
project with absolute referencing (when they should be relative);
when the project gets checked out on another user's machine, and the
files are incorrectly referenced, XCode hangs on initiation of build.
