Xcode will recognize that the file was modified after you deactivate and
reactivate it (i.e. click somewhere in the desktop, then back in Xcode).

For Xcode to instantaneously notice file modifications, Apple's smbfs
should first support notifications (rdar://4146132, though it's probably a
duplicate). For some people I know, this was the #1 problem with OS X since
10.0, but apparently not everyone thinks so.
