Possibly the most straightforward method of answering your questions
and solving all of your problems is using the firewall. You can
block the IPs of the machines that aren't sharing from accessing the
distcc port. Then, you would also want to log these blocked
packets. Once configured, this should all show up in /var/log/
ipfw.log. I don't know any current third party utilities off the top
of my head, but I know a few years ago, brick house was useful for
manually configuring ipfw. Have fun!
