Note that this problem won't occur if you do a clean install of
MacOS X 10.4 and migrate only the user accounts, applications and
network
settings (but not the data and files). In this case when you install
Xcode 2.0 it will be treated as a new install rather than an
upgrade and
old Xcode files (now belonging to BSD.pkg) will not be deleted.
Likewise
you won't see this issue with a Archive and Restore install of
Tiger.
My impression from reading this thread is that you can avoid this
problem even if you do a straight upgrade if you first uninstall
XCode 1.5. Is that true? I.e. if you (1) uninstall XCode 1.5, (2)
upgrade to 10.4, and then (3) install XCode 2.0, you should be ok.
It is my understanding that you can either do what you say above, or
1. Install Tiger
2. Install Xcode 2.0
3. Re-Install BSD subsystem from Tiger
Are these both correct?
I did an upgrade and am missing some files also. I'm relatively new
to OS X - just bought a Mac in November. How does one reinstall the
BSD subsystem -- do another "upgrade" to Tiger using the DVD? Do I
have to remember to select all the same options I selected the first
time (e.g., X11, etc.)?
If there is a planned patch from Apple, I can wait as it hasn't
caused me any problems yet.
Thanks,
Dave
