Just to make things clear, you're seeing that when you double-click an Xcode project, Xcode launches but the project doesn't open?

Correct. The same behavior occurs with Xcode text files (.m, .h, etc.).

Also, dragging projects/source files to Xcode's icon, in the Dock or in a window, does the same thing - Xcode launches (or comes forward if already running), but the dragged items don't open.

I'd be more inclined to suspect a rogue Xcode plugin or something like that.

Bingo.

Digging into MacSQL's installer, it installs this plugin:

/Library/Application Support/Apple/Developer Tools/Plug-ins/ RTSQLSyntaxSupport.pbplugin

Removing it and re-launching Xcode fixed the problem here.

(For completeness, the other components MacSQL installed outside the Developer folder are:

/Library/Application Support/Apple/Developer Tools/Project Templates/ Application/AppleScript SQL Application

/Library/Application Support/Apple/Developer Tools/Project Templates/ Application/AppleScript SQL Document-based Application

/Library/Frameworks/MacSQL.framework
/Library/Frameworks/FreeTDS.framework

Here's hoping the framework gets an update soon - it looks pretty cool, but there are a number of problems with it under Tiger, not least of which is breaking Xcode's ability to 2click-open projects. A couple of people of spoken with now say they've been unable to get a response from the developer, so I hope nothing bad has happened to anyone concerned.)
