10.4.4 does not run on DTS machines, nor will it. The DTS
machines use a different processor architecture than the machines
shipped today, and Apple does not expect to ship production
machines with the DTS architecure.
This is extremely disturbing news. While I fully understand that
we were not buying the DTS machines and that final shipping
hardware would be different I was under the impression that they
would at least be supported until I was required to return them.
Given the impression that they'd be useful for a year and a half
$999 was a very nice price. But now that they aren't going to be
supported any more, $999 seems a little pricey for 6 months of use
(more like 5 for us).
I sincerely hope that Apple is planning on giving discounts to
those who shelled out for the DTS machines only to find that their
investment was unexpectedly cut short.
So check this out. It doesn't say it costs anything, so maybe it's
just a straight exchange, which is pretty cool.
