Flipping the current config popup to Release and back to Debug fixes this. Today I got sick of this happening and wondered why it was doing that. I opened all of the subprojects and sure enough, their current config was set to Release. So it looks like the bug is that when you open a project, it doesn't sync the current config with any subprojects. Reported already?

You're right that the build configuration of the current target should make the configurations of the same name in the subprojects.

It works when you change the config popup, so I'm thinking it's just a bug that it doesn't do check to make sure all subprojects will use the same config when you open a project. If I don't hear anything by the end of the day, I'll report it.

Just picking at details here. I don't think that Xcode should make any changes to your referenced projects when you change the active build configuration in the main project. They are just referenced projects after all, and could be referenced from several other projects - possibly with different active build configurations.

That said, Xcode should of course take the active build configuration into account when performing dependency analysis and when building - in the referenced projects, just as well as in the main project.

If that doesn't work for you, file a bug report. Bonus points if you can reproduce the problem, and show them how!
