To narrow the problem down (as you say this is necessary for a useful
bug report), you should monitor the file in question (pick one) with
a script that examines the line endings and reports when something
changes. (e.g. make the script examine the file on disk and then
sleep for a minute before doing it again. Have the script make a beep
or something so you'll notice when it happens.)
