I don't know if you are aware of this view, but IMHO it negates the need to
ever worry about "where is my build window" or to have to worry about it
moving down or up or wherever.

I'm not sure you understand the problem having not read the original post. It's not that the build window itself moves. It's that one pane of the window moves. I'm not sure why it happens as it doesn't happen every time I click build so I'm not sure that choosing a different layout will effect anything.

And it didn't. I'm still getting the same behavior.
