When I updated the Developer documentation (you know how Xcode can
automatically check for you) I was given this option, and since I do
Java work, I decided to give it a go. Half an hour to an hour, I believe
it said. I don't recall how long it actually took though. Am I going to
have to do this again with the 2.3 update? I did the documentation
update only a few weeks ago.

And, fwiw, it really never did take this long before, at least not
for me. I promise you.
In either 2.1 or 2.2 I believe Apple (sorry my memory is going..) had
the installer index the Java docs if you installed them instead of
having them already indexed (something like that). If you don't need
the Java docs your install will be much much faster (you don't have to
install them).
