I know the statement isn't your actual opinion, but couldn't have said it better myself.

So are you suggesting that Apple should stop distributing multi- lingual versions of iTunes, for example? That their download page should offer 15 different versions?

Sure, why not? They already have several download pages in other languages. Who's going to go to this page to get a copy of iTunes in Japanese:

http://www.apple.com/fr/itunes/download/

or this page to get it in French:

http://www.apple.com/jp/itunes/download/

or this page to get it in Korean:

http://www.apple.com/de/itunes/download/

or this page to get it in German:

http://www.apple.com/es/itunes/download/

There are more, but you get the idea.

And while we're at it, why not make PPC, Intel and Universal variants available. 3 architecture variants times 15 language variants = 45 download options.

Wouldn't bother me. :-) But this is not analogous. Some less-savvy people may actually not know which processor they have, or someone may use and external drive to boot multiple Macs. I doubt anyone using iTunes doesn't know what language he speaks.
