This post was going to be a question, but since I found the answer
(and I consider it to be a non-obvious feature), I thought I'd pass
it on as a tip...
XCode editor windows can be split, allowing two files to be viewed
and edited, one above the other. This is done by selecting View >>
Split <filename> Vertically, or by clicking the icon above the
vertical scroll bars.
However I prefer to view files side by side, especially when editing
on a wide-screen display. To do this, hold down Option (or Alt),
then go to View >> Split <filename> Horizontally (the original menu
item is replaced), or hold down Option and click the split button
above the scroll bars.
Hope that helps someone out there :-)
Andy
PS. Does anyone else find the designations "split horizontally" and
"split vertically" confusing? To me, the terms seem to be reversed!
