I may know what you mean by "toc keeps disappearing" but I want to
make sure -- could you provide an example of what you mean?
I work with three windows open:
* down the left is the project tree and (primary) code editor window,
* the right is split horizontally
* top is build results / debugger
* bottom is help window
If I option-double-click on an item in the code editor, the api help
for that item is navigated to in the help window. I always have to
scroll to the top of the help page to click the "show toc" link - the
help display never remembers I chose to show the toc -- so I'm asking
for a stateful help display
On the "Menu Manager" item I don't know what you are referring to
-- could you amplify on that?
I found there was no immediately displayed "contents page" for the
various "reference" documents (menu manager reference, control
manager reference etc) I would have liked to have been presented with
a list of those references for easy access when I began using Xcode,
say in a submenu of the help menu. I believe those documents to be of
great value, and should be presented to the user at a high level
(like in the menu system).
This could exist in a tip of the day also.
I cannot remember an application that did not give the user the
option to display tips of the day (if they were a part of the
application) so I think apple should find another reason not to put
them in, fail in that attempt (because of the overwhelming number of
reasons to include it), and include a Tip of the Day viewer in 3.0 -
that TOD could be generated by members of this list. Indeed, if
someone were to read through the "Xcode falls short" thread they
could compile a great first ten tips. I'm certain this list would be
good for gathering a good solid collection of Tips of the Day.
Xcode and all the Apis are so vast and complex, it's possible to
forget all the great features you meant to try out when you first
installed, and after many weeks on something else, deep in code land,
it would be a refreshing and possibly inspirational reminder about
feature x you saw in the tip of the day.
Think of the Gimp without a tip of the day. That universe would suck.
Then they would feel a part of the process.
