Yes, debating on the list is a waste of everybody's time. The most productive course would be to file enhancement requests for wanted features:

It's also often appropriate to post a "how do I do this?" question to the list, once you've searched the archives of course. You'll either be told that it's possible and you just didn't know how, or you'll be advised to file a bug report.
