PS Why ARE you trying to build i386 code on a G5??

That is supported and the normal way to build universal binaries (directly or indirectly) or platform targeted products.

So I don't really understand why you ask ... why? :)

Just that in general if you have access to both PPC and Intel boxes, it is slightly less hassle to build fat binaries on Intel, because you don't need the SDK and it will run both ppc and intel code. Some packages like gcc will only build fat on Intel.

If you'd care to mail me an intel mac, I'll be happy to oblige and never build for i386 on my G5, ever again. I'm sure others feel the same. =)
