Are you guys aware of how painful this is compared to what Mac
development should be?
Ah, yes, Codewarrior never had any bugs. Please.
Please, CodeWarrior had an occasional bug,
While I'm not Xcode´s biggest fan, nearly no CodeWarrior releases
allowed to debug shared libraries / plugins correctly, including the
last CW IDE release where the debugger was broken with an subsequent
Xcode update.
That started when CW Pro 1 broke with the debugger integration some
ways to unattach from system extensions, and from then on every other
release just sometimes allowed to debug OSAXen / MacEasyOpen
Translators / QuickTime Components / XTensions / InDesign or
Photoshop or iMovie Plugins. Sometimes CW confused the xSyms, then
just at a certain symbol size it could not be used for C++ any more,
then there was the debugger broken by using a German KCHR, etc..
If nothing else, the ability to debug gdb from gdb to diagnose a
problem and potentially get a fix is a neat trick.
It's a neat trick if you can figure out that cryptic stuff and a
neat trick I never needed before using Xcode.
Yes, agreed, before that it was impossible to diagnose. I simply don't
want to search my archived mailboxes how often I reported debugger
problems (that usually made it into the release) during CW beta tests.
