Uh, what's up with the Mac community? Usually, such questions ignite a small-sized flamewar Carbon vs. Cocoa vs. Scripting Languages.


My own taste is: Keep It Simple. Thus, my frameworks of choice are plain shell scripting (ksh, bash) and Cocoa / GNUstep. For a peek into the latter, install Xcode, then do the tutorials at

They'll give you a good idea of wether Objective-C is for you or not.
