Apple's FileMerge is functional but so very unintuitive (no live

Emacs' emerge and ediff tools are extremely good, and have the
benefit of actually being part of the text editor rather than a
separate tool (so all the normal editing commands are available...
the files you're merging are in normal buffers---albeit with extra
highlighting).
Of course, Emacs is about as far from a conventional Mac application
as it's possible to get, so if you've come from the pre-OS X Mac
world you might not like it, but if you're familiar with it already
then it's a pretty good choice.
