I've been working with a project that hasn't presented me any real problems

presented with a 'Cannot find bounds of current function' error from gdb in
Xcode. I was baffled and thought it was a one time deal. I quit my debugging
session and started up again.

Normally this error indicates a bug in the compiler's debug info generation. Switching from stabs to dwarf or vice versa might solve your problem.
