Agree with the need to throw heavy hardware at this probably artificial software problem. The Xcode text editor is sufficiently slow on a 2 GHz Intel Powerbook that I sometimes end up typing way ahead of it; not infrequently, the insertion point materializes a few seconds later in an unexpected spot, a read drag.
So until the Xcode project managers come to realize that they need to guarantee basic functionality in preference to adding marginally useful features, you're stuck.
