I have been seeing a lot of bizarre behavior with passwords stored in my keychain. Not with Xcode (in my case), but with other apps/ commands. It's very bizarre, and I haven't filed a bug because I can't figure out any reproducible case.

I think there might be something, in general, wrong with the KeyChain implementation in Leopard. But I don't really know. I just know that my two Leopard machines exhibit odd behavior related to properly storing information in the keychain, and my Tiger machine doesn't.

It sounds as if you have lost write rights to your keychain file. Which keychain is this key found in (the list of "keychains" in the left area of Keychain Access)? I would expect it to be the one named "login". Is it unlocked (shows an open lock icon)? If you unlock it, update in Xcode, then quit, restart, update again, does the second update work without asking for a password? What are the permissions on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain?
