Precisely the current behaviour, Joey. The point, though, is that this behaviour has changed fairly recently. My question still stands. Is this a bug? It seems less desirable behaviour to me.
Perhaps it's not a massive deal, but still significant.
If you have a project put together in a previous Xcode - say the 2006 sample QTKitButtonTester, you'll notice the behaviour you describe is not the behaviour of this sample app. Control bar and its buttons are displayed before a movie is associated with the movieView. I prefer the previous behaviour.
