Using XCode 3.1

  • Subject: Using XCode 3.1

Hi,

I am using XCode 3.1 and am comparatively new to using XCode full-time, though, the rest of the team I work with have been using it for a long time now. My big bugbear with XCode is the speed of the brute. 2.4 GHz, 2 G, 2 Cores and everything is slow. It is at times like crawling through treacle. Simple things like opening a file are slow, editing text in a largish file is, well, sluggish. My colleague recommends turning off syntax colouring as a way of alleviating some of the speed problems. It is a shame I have used syntax colouring for years, and like it, but I am sure I will get used to turning it off.

I have seen huge improvement in XCode from it's seedling stages as project builder - and there are many things that are really, really nice about it. Chris Esp. and the team really deserve credit for what they have achieved. I love the code completion and the mini debugger and many other things - but I think, given a choice, I would exchange them for something that was more basic and a lot faster.

Best regards

Alan
