Another point worth making is that time machine is *not* designed to do archival version backups. Yes, you can have it warn you that it is about to delete older versions (due to a full disk) but by design, those older versions are for an "oh crud" moment, not serious archival.


If you really want backups of a particular version of your app, do it explicitly through some other system. I'd suggest writing a script that zips up your entire project folder, names it properly, and moves it into a "project archives" folder. Then that folder will be backed up by time machine and those "versions" will never, ever be thrown away by time machine.

Do not rely on time machine for archival purposes.
