Hi all,

I have a NIB which needs localising, so I generated strings by:

/Xcode2.5/usr/bin/nibtool -L English.lproj/MyInterface.nib > English.lproj/MyInterface.strings

and then handed over to the translators, who created the various *.lproj/MyInterface.strings files. These are all valid UTF-16 and have the same keys as the original English version, and plutil - lint says that they parse too. In fact all that's happened is that they've been put through perforce and translated by the l10n team. But when I do:

/Xcode2.5/usr/bin/nibtool -d French.lproj/MyInterface.strings -w French.lproj/MyInterface.nib English.lproj/MyInterface.nib

I get an interface written out with English strings :-(. Is there anything I might have missed? Unfortunately answers involving ibtool or the -O option might just remind me that I should have thought of that _before_ giving it to translation…

Graham,
Just to verify, the English Keys are on the left side, and the translated French values are on the right side?

Yes, and the 1s and 0s are definitely different voltages too ;-)

While it still might be a parseable file, perhaps it would be a good idea to use FileMerge to guarantee only the translated strings changed on the right hand side of the file between the quotation marks, and nothing else in the file did. Depending on the size of your nib, this might be rather annoying to verify.

opendiff English.lproj/MyInterface.strings French.lproj/ MyInterface.strings

I hadn't thought of trying that, thanks. I'll give it a go.

Cheers,
Graham. _______________________________________________
