This has been the point where I stopped using *Ruby*-Cocoa for tasks
where I need *intensive* debugging -- just a personal thing ;-).
It bears reiteration for archival purposes:
If you are new to Cocoa programming, using Python or Ruby via their
bridges is not a good idea. You are going to have to learn the Cocoa
APIs, design patterns, and overall idioms before you can achieve Cocoa
Competence. And doing so will require a knowledge of Objective-C.
Furthermore and pertinent to this thread, debugging RubyCocoa, PyObjC,
and, to a lesser but not entirely transparent extent, MacRuby is a
tedious pain in the butt compared to debugging straight Objective-C
based Cocoa programs.
The bridges make awful learning tools. Where they shine is when you
need access to some native Ruby or Python library -- Twisted, comes
immediately to mind -- as the bridges allow for a very tight degree of
integration with Cocoa applications.
